# Finding demographic data
## Using Chicago Cityscape to find demographic data
Chicago Cityscape can automatically compile demographic data based on arbitrary places within Demographics Snapshot.
1. Open a Place Report for any place within Illinois.
2. In the Table of Contents, select "Show Additional Snapshots", and then select "Demographics" (see screenshot 1, which shows it by the former name of Lending & Investment Snapshot).
3. A new browser tab will open to show the Demographics Snapshot webpage.
4. In Demographics Snapshot, wait a moment for a demographics information table to appear on the left side of the map (see screenshot 2).
The demographics table shows aggregate data for the Census tracts that overlap the Place Report; these Census tracts are shown on the map. As screenshot 2 demonstrates, Place Reports are unlikely to align with Census tract boundaries.

- [Community Data Snapshots](https://www.cmap.illinois.gov/data/community-snapshots) from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP). These exist for each of the 7 counties in the CMAP region, each of the 284 municipalities, and each of Chicago's 77 community areas. They are updated annually and provide information about population, households, housing (units and tenure), race, ethnicity, disability, and technology access, among other attributes.
